Jun 2023 Predicted finish, Master Points vs Power Ratings

This table shows that Power Ratings is a more accurate predictor of a pairs finish than Master Points. The first column is the difference between their Power Rating average and Master Point total. A pair with the 3rd best PR and 8th highest MP total would be 5. The third column is the difference between their actual finish and their MP total. The forth column is the difference between their actual finish and their PR average.

Rated refers to pairs consisting of players with Power or Pair Ratings. All rated pairs that played during Jun 2023. PR place is the number of places higher or lower Power Ratings predicts a pair will finish than Master Points predicts. The pair with the most Master Points is predicted to be 1st, 2nd most Master Points, 2nd. The pair with the highest PR is predicted to be 1st, the 2nd highest, 2nd, ect. Pairs is the number of pairs found. MP/actual finish is the difference between the actual finish and the MP prediction. Notice that the actual finish is always higher for pairs with higher PR ratings compaired to MP ratings. PR/actual finish is the difference between the actual finish and the PR prediction. Notice that the actual finish has no relation to the MP prediction. Only games where 13, 14, or 15 pairs per section are found.
