When the ACBL provided all tournament game files to me, I could see the average won loss record for all Knock Out teams.

The average won loss record of all matches for all teams that belong in a higher bracket is greater than 60%.

The average won loss record of all matches for all teams that belong in a lower bracket is less than 40%

The average won loss record of all matches for all teams that are bracketed correctly is close to 50%

This has happened every month for over 5 years. I can prove the same thing happens with bracketed swiss teams, stratified pairs, and flighted events like the 299ers. Bracketing, stratifying, and flighting is an improvement over everyone playing against everyone. But we can do better.
